ALOFT: How to Upgrade Weapons and Tools

Weapons in Aloft are divided into two types: melee (swords, spears) and ranged (bows). Since the game is in early access, at the moment only two levels of weapons (and tools) are available: Stone and Bone.

Upgrading Weapons and Tools

In order to upgrade a weapon, you must unlock and build an Upgrade Station. Initially, you can only build its frame, after which you can install up to three modules on it: Coating Station, Customizing Station, and Sharpening Station. Modules unlock separately from the basic station.

When you upgrade a weapon or a tool in any way, a certain effect is applied to it. The list of effects is displayed in the weapon description. All three effects (coating, trinket, and sharpening) can be applied to one item at the same time. Every upgrade consumes one corresponding item.

A sword will 3 upgrades

Pay attention that neither bows nor arrows can be coated, sharpened, customized, or upgraded in any other way.

Coating

Temporarily increases weapon or tool effectiveness. Here is the list of possible effects:

Customizing

Using a Customization Station, you can install Trinkets on your weapons or tools that grant certain effects. At the moment, there are six Trinkets available in the game, and all of them can be crafted at a Workbench.

An installed Trinket cannot be removed or replaced with another one. If you dismantle an item with a Trinket, you will not get it back.

Sharpening

Only the following items can be sharpened: Hammer, Axe, Sword, Sickle, Dorkip. Sharpening requires 2 Hardstone and applies the effect “SHARP: Temporarily deals much more damage” to the item.
