After completing the first quest, “Leaving the Nest,” you will receive a new quest, “Forgotten Legacy.” Its goals are the following:
- Explore other islands;
- Find lost sailing knowledge (0/4);
- Find and examine the second fresco.
To complete this quest, you need to explore other islands, and you will need a glider for this. Start from the corrupted island (the dark one), which is hard to confuse with any other.
The Seed of Corruption (Island Task)
Once you land on the corrupted island, you will receive the “The Seed of Corruption” quest, which asks you to find the source of corruption. The source is located in the very middle and looks as shown in the screenshot below.
Attack the weak spots of the node (marked red) using your Stone Axe. Once you destroy both of them, the node itself will open, and you will be able to attack it too.
Then the node will close and spawn an aggressive mob. This will be your first combat encounter in Aloft. Use your Stone Axe as a weapon and keep your distance so as not to allow the mob to hit you.
After this, repeat the process: destroy 2 weak spots, then the node itself. This time, the corruption source will disappear, and the island will become green again.
First Lost Sailing Knowledge
On the hill, you will find the first of 4 required “lost sailing knowledges.” It looks like an anchor with colored spheres around it.
This knowledge will teach you how to build a Rudder.
Second Fresco
Right next to the island you just healed from corruption, there is another one. I recommend starting from the spot next to the “singing tree” (marked red on the screenshot).
There, you will find the entrance to the cave with the “second fresco,” which the quest asks you to find.
A key to open the Ancient Door lies right next to it. Take the key and open the door. After this, examine the second fresco.
The reward is a formula for the “Helm.” You will need all these recipes later for building.
Second and Third Lost Sailing Knowledges
Leave the cave with the second fresco and go along the road. This way, you will find the next 2 lost sailing knowledges. Here’s what the first one looks like (still an anchor, unlocks Leaf Floater):

Fourth Lost Sailing Knowledge
The next closest island is empty, so you will need to fly further. There will be two islands: a corrupted one and a normal one. You should go to the normal one; I marked it on the screenshot.
There, on the very top, you will find the last sailing knowledge you need. This knowledge will unlock Leaf Square Sail.
Once you’re done with this, you will receive the next quest: “Claiming the Sky.”
