Crystal of Atlan: Review – Questions & Answers

I’ve started playing Crystal of Atlan not so long ago, so the review will be quite short. Nevertheless, I will do my best to answer all the questions about this game that you have on your mind.

What Are You Gonna Do Most of the Time?

Most of your time in Crystal of Atlan you will spend grinding story stages, playing PVP matches, participating in various events, and upgrading your character. You can choose desired activities for yourself, but if you want to progress faster, you will have to participate in all of them every day.

The thing is, most of the activities have limits, which recover daily. For example, you have limited Energy for story chapters and can earn a limited number of Battle Points (90, to be specific).

Can You Customize Your Character?

Character customization unlocks after level 15, and there is a separate guide about it. You can change hair, face, skin tone, and the colors of the class outfit. Also, you can dye custom outfits. It can be done in a free-to-play way, but it is kind of expensive.

How Does the Class System Work?

There are 5 characters in the game: Swordsman, Musketeer, Magister, Puppeteer, and Fighter. Each character is bound to its starting class and has 2–3 classes to choose from. For example, the Swordsman can become a Magiblade or a Berserker.

The class determines which skills the character will have and which weapon they will use. The class can be switched though: for free until reaching level 45, and for 1 Soul Stone (costs 1000 Prismadium) after that.

What Does the Combat System Look Like?

Crystal of Atlan is an action-RPG, so its combat system is based on using combos of various skills, while regular auto-attacks are much less effective. An interesting detail is that you can have more skills than you can actually place on the quick-access panel, so your skill build will significantly affect your effectiveness.

It is especially important in PVP, because the key point you should learn is to knock down opponents and keep them in the air, constantly dealing damage with rapid attacks.

Being in this state, they can’t answer you, so your success in PVP is mostly determined by your ability to “catch the opponent in a combo” and keep them helpless as long as possible, dealing damage.

Is PVP Fair?

PVP never was fair and never will be. Some classes are always stronger than others, and “a perfect balance” is nothing but a myth. Nevertheless, in terms of pay-to-win, PVP in Crystal of Atlan is completely fair. Equipment for PVP and PVE exists in the game separately, so your PVE stuff doesn’t affect your performance in Ranked Matches.

Is There Crafting?

Yes, but it’s very mediocre. The range of required materials is very narrow. For example, top-grade equipment only requires 1–3 types of resources, which can be obtained from specific activities. I would not call this system with a loud word “crafting” …

Are There Social Elements?

You can have friends, send flowers to people, talk in world chat. Also, there are Fleets (an analogue of “guilds” in this game). They unlock unique game modes and allow you to cooperate with other players from your Fleet.

Is Crystal of Atlan Pay-to-Win?

I’d say rather NO than YES. Donations drastically speed up your progress indeed, but they don’t affect PVP competition. By spending real money, you can increase your position in rankings and become stronger in PVE activities. Everything can be obtained in a free-to-play way though, only much slower.

How Well Is the Game Optimized?

Crystal of Atlan has one of the best optimizations I’ve ever seen. Even if you play with “Ultra” settings, you still have stable 60 FPS even on quite old graphics cards like the RX 580. I can’t say anything about mobile performance though, because I’ve never tried this game on a mobile device.

How Many Players Play Crystal of Atlan?

Hundreds of thousands. At the moment of posting this review, the game had been installed over 1 million times only from the Google Play Store, so it has a very high online population. However, players are distributed among tens of servers, and every server has several channels. This is done to prevent the game from lagging due to the huge number of players in a single location.
