Cubic Odyssey: How to Purify Planets of Red Darkness

Most planets in Cubic Odyssey are corrupted with Red Darkness. Red Darkness always has one or several sources, which must be destroyed in order to purify the planet. In this guide, I will explain the entire process of planet purification.

Video Guide

Why You Should Purify Planets?

First of all, when the planet is purified, it gives you a Planet Reward. This is a giant marble statue of a player that contains glowing ore on the top of the right hand and a Reward Monument (a chest) by the feet. When interacting with the chest, you receive 1000 Qbits, and this reward can be taken every 60 minutes while you’re online.

Planet Reward

This might seem like a very insignificant number of Qbits, but the thing is, in Cubic Odyssey, you have Planet Portals. I recommend you place one next to each Planet Reward and write down the name of the planet somewhere. We have to do this, because in the current patch, you can’t rename portals, so you will easily forget which planets you need to visit for rewards.

Reward Monument

Having 15-20 such planets, you can effortlessly collect 15-20k Qbits in just 3-4 minutes every hour. This is important, because you need a lot of Qbits for trading if you want to progress faster. A separate guide on how to earn Qbits fast is already published on the website.

How to Purify a Corrupted Planet

In order to purify a corrupted planet, you must land on it first. It might be impossible, because some of the corrupted planets are protected with a shield, which is generated by one or several Darkness Sources. All of them are marked with a spider icon on the map.

How to Destroy a Planet Shield

All you need to do is just destroy all the Darkness Sources that generate this shield in space. Each of them is usually defended by 2 quite weak pirate drones, which will start attacking you once you approach.

Darkness Sources in space

After dealing with them, destroy the Darkness Source. It has a lot of HP, so I recommend you use missiles for this.

Upon destroying all the Darkness Sources, the shield will disappear, and you will be able to visit the planet.

How to Destroy Darkness Sources on Surface

In order to purify a planet, you must eliminate all the Dark Walkers and destroy all the Dark Sources on its surface. Dark Sources are large round spots, totally corrupted by Red Darkness. To destroy them, you need a Darkness Purifier and one Light Shard.

Dark Sources on surface of a planet

Get close enough to a Dark Source, aim at it, while holding a Darkness Purifier in your hands, press RMB (right mouse button) and hold it until the light strike is summoned.

calling light strike

It will take 15 seconds before the Light Strike hits the Dark Source, and after that, it will be totally destroyed. In the middle of it, you will find a reward: some ores, a Darkness Core Fragment, and other stuff.

Note that Dark Sources are usually defended by several dark mobs and even have turrets on top. For this reason, before you approach it, I recommend you save the game and kill the mobs using a sniper rifle.

You can craft Light Shards using the “Light Shards” facility, and the Darkness Purifier at the “Purification Bench”. Both of them can be found in any activated Ancient Temple (e.g., the one on the “Bardwell 2” planet).

How to Eliminate a Dark Walker

Most corrupted planets only have Darkness Sources, but sometimes a Dark Walker is also present. In this case, planet purification becomes more difficult, because you will need more Light Shards.

Dark Walker

Dark Walkers are huge invulnerable spiders that slowly walk along the map. To eliminate a Dark Walker, you must first summon the Light Strike using your Darkness Purifier (get close and hold RMB). After the Light Strike hits the Dark Walker, it will disappear, and a pulsing Core (let’s call it like this) will appear.

It is vulnerable, but only exists for 15 seconds, so you must quickly attack it to destroy the Dark Walker’s HP. Just shoot at the Core using your firearms or even the Laser Guns and missiles of your ship.

Dark Walker's Core

The thing is, most likely you won’t be able to fully destroy the Dark Walker’s HP in one attempt, so in 15 seconds, the spider will appear again. In this case, you will have to summon the Light Strike time after time, spending more Light Shards, and attack the pulsing Core until it’s totally destroyed.

Note that as the Core’s HP decreases, it summons quite strong dark mobs that will attack you, so you should have a good weapon and armor in order to deal with Dark Walkers.

How to Purify the Planet

Ancient Weapon

After all the Dark Walkers and all the Dark Sources are destroyed, the planet can be purified from the Red Darkness. All you need to do is to find an Ancient Weapon, interact with it, and press “Purify”. Ancient Weapons are marked on the map with a yellow icon, so you will easily find them.

However, some planets might not have an Ancient Weapon on their surface. In this case, you should use the “mobile Ancient Weapon”, which you will get by completing one of the story missions. It is simply an Ancient Spaceship, which follows you to any planet and is marked on the map with the same yellow icon as a normal Ancient Weapon.

You need to go inside the ship (through the door, because you can’t interact with it otherwise). In front of the Captain’s Seat, you will find the Planet Purifier facility. Interact with it, press “Purify the planet”, and the job’s done.

Once the planet is purified successfully, a huge marble statue of the player will appear near the Ancient Weapon. At the top of the right hand of this statue, you can usually find a few blocks of Glowing Ores, while by the feet, there will be an Ancient Chest, which will reward you with 1000 Qbits every hour.
