Cubic Odyssey: Ores (Guide)

There are 16 ores of different rarity and 4 gems in Cubic Odyssey. They are mostly needed for smelting ingots, but can also be sold to merchants in cities or used for completing quests (some NPCs might ask you to deliver 50 Gold Ore or 50 Titanium Ore). Also, there are Glowing versions of the default ores that become available later in the game.

How to Find Ores

Since the very beginning of the game, you get acquainted with the QB-1 drone, which is available in your inventory (Tab). It has a Drone Scanner that allows you to detect ore veins within a certain range around the drone. The better the Drone Scanner, the higher the range of ore detection.

Drone Scanner

Initially, all the ores are undiscovered, so you can’t scan for them precisely. They will appear in the list only after you find them in the wilderness or acquire them in any other way. When an ore is discovered, you can simply press on it to launch scanning. If the drone finds the ore you need, it will be highlighted through the obstacles. There are two important nuances here.

highlighted ore

First of all, check the ore tiers available on the current planet. To do this, open the map (M), go to the “System” tab, and aim at the name of the planet with the cursor. In the “Abundant” row, you will see the list of ore tiers that can be found on the planet. For example, on the starting planet “Bardwell 1,” only Tier 1 and Tier 2 ores are present, so you won’t be able to mine anything else.

Bardwell 1

The second important thing is that the Drone Scanner has a radius of ore detection, while the depth at which the ores themselves can be found depends on their tier. The higher the tier, the deeper you usually need to dig. I say usually because on planets like “Bardwell 3,” only high-tier ores are present, so they might be found close to the surface.

However, if the planet contains a wide range of ore tiers (e.g., from 1 to 5, like “Bardwell 2”), high-tier ores can only be found very deep in the ground. You should consider this when scanning for ores: if you need high-tier ore, first dig deep into the ground (at least 20-30 blocks), then start scanning.

How to Discover New Ores

Despite the fact that you can’t scan precisely for undiscovered ore, you can still perform scanning for a random ore of a specific tier. For example, when you need to find Gold Ore for one of the missions at the beginning of the game, you should scan for ores of Tier 2.

the “Scan any Tier 2” button

To do this, just click on the “Scan any Tier 2” button. You might not find the ore you need on the first attempt, but you should keep scanning, and eventually, you will catch the right one. After that, it will become discovered, and you will be able to scan for this ore precisely.

Where to Find Gold Ore for the Mission?

At the coordinates (673, -429) on the starting “Bardwell 1” planet, there is a cave where you will find quite rich Gold and Silver Ore veins.

Best Places for Ore Mining

On the surface of each planet, there are Ancient Ruins built from the glowing Ancient Hull Block. Inside such ruins, there are always pirates – aggressive mobs with guns who will try to kill you as soon as you approach.

Ancient Ruins

However, such ruins are always filled with ore veins that are easily accessible. So once you kill the mobs, you can quickly mine quite a lot of ores. In addition, there are always ancient crates in such ruins, which also might contain random ores or ingots.

TIP: Coal is much easier to craft from wood than to find and mine in the world. All you need to do is just cut down a random tree and use your Refinery to smelt wood into Coal.

Also, you can explore deep caves. This is convenient if you need ores of several types. Sometimes, in caves, quite rich ore veins can be found.

Other Ways to Obtain Ores and Ingots

  • Ores, ingots, and gems can be randomly found in any chests in the world. On the surface of any planet, there are lots of buildings and ancient ruins, and they always contain chests.
  • Ores, ingots, and gems can also be bought from merchants in cities. Cities are marked with a blue icon on the map.
  • You can also mine ore in space by shooting asteroids. For this, you must visit an asteroid field if the current system contains one.
  • High-tier ores can also be found after the Meteor Shower. Visit the place where meteors fell down and collect them. Usually, you find ore of tier 4 there: Uranium, Polonium, Radium or Cobalt.

Pay attention to the fact that the loot of the chests and the offers of merchants don’t depend on the “Abundant” status of the planet.
