In Undawn, players can have multiple pets. At the time of writing this guide, the available pets are cats or dogs. The first pets can be obtained for free after completing a special mission. The pets will live in your Homestead in dedicated pet houses, and you can also take one of them with you into the open world.
How to obtain a pet
You will receive your first rare-quality pets (a cat and a dog) after completing a short quest marked with “[Pet],” which automatically appears for all players at a certain stage of the game in the “Mission” section. The exact information about when the quest appears is currently unknown, but based on my observations, it can be assumed that it becomes available almost from the beginning of the game (I personally received the quest after the pet update was released).
Additional pets can be purchased using RC and Pet Trust Points from the special NPC Phoebe in Raven Shelter (Seinz Hills region).
You can easily find this NPC by going to the Esc → Pet menu, selecting any pet from the list, and then clicking on “How to Obtain” → “Adopt a Pet” → “Find the way.”
How to house a pet in your Homestead
You can house up to three pets in your Homestead, and each of them requires a separate Pet Room. Pet Rooms can be purchased from the Esc → Market → Pet → Pet Furniture section using Silver and Pet Trust Points.
However, you will receive one Standard Pet Room for free upon completing the quest.
Once you have placed the Pet Rooms in your Homestead, open the Esc → Pet menu and click on the “Petcare Box” button.
On the right side of the interface, you will see slots for pets: 1 Pet Room equals 1 available slot. Select a pet and click “Retrieve” to house it in an available Pet Room.
The pet will spawn inside the Pet Room but will soon come out and roam around your Homestead.
Taking a pet with you into the open world
At the time of writing this guide, you can only take a dog with you into the open world in Undawn. Cats in Undawn are classified as “small pets,” and “small pets” cannot be taken outside of the Homestead.
Go to the Esc → Pet menu, select the dog in the Pet Room slot, and click on “Take Out.” Now your pet will follow you wherever you go.
However, note that in combat, it will not assist you but rather hide and reappear when the danger has passed (perhaps the dog needs to mature for battles or something similar; I haven’t had a chance to find out yet).
Feeding your pet and interacting with it
Approach your pet and click on the “Interact” button that appears on the screen.
Through the interaction menu, you can feed your pet (food can be purchased from the Market → Pet section) or give it some attention (petting / playing).
If you have activated the “Take Out” option, and your pet is following you in the open world, you will have an additional option called “Pet Bag.” The Pet Bag has 14 slots where you can store items that don’t fit in your inventory.
Please note that the “Pet Bag” button is also available in your inventory (B). This means you don’t have to run up to your pet every time to access its inventory.
In the Esc → Pet section, you can see the hunger and happiness bars of your pets. To fill these bars, you need to feed your pets on time and interact with them periodically (petting / playing, etc.).
Leveling up Friendship with your pet
In the Esc → Pet section, you can also see the “Friendship” bar.
This represents your relationship level with your pet. When you feed your pet or interact with it (petting / playing), you earn Friendship points. Note that points will not be accumulated if the pet’s hunger and happiness bars are at 100%.
When the Friendship level increases, you receive rewards in the form of Pet Trust Points. You can view the rewards for each level of Friendship with each specific pet by clicking on a special icon shaped like a festive gift box next to the bar.
Leveling up Friendship also unlocks new ways to interact with your pet (new animations).
How to remove pets from the Homestead
If for any reason you need to remove a pet from your Homestead, you can return it to the Petcare Box, where it (as far as I understand) will not require any interaction or feeding. To do this, open the Esc → Pet menu, click on the “Petcare Box” button, select any active pet, and click on “Pet Care.”
How to rename a pet
You can give your pet its first name for free. After that, to rename it, you will need a Pet Tag, which can be purchased for 1000 Pet Trust Points in the Esc → Market → Pet → Other section.
How to Change Your Pet’s Appearance
After a recent update in Undawn, the ability to purchase accessories for your pets has been introduced. To do this, select your pet in the “Pet” section and click on the “Pet Look” icon (located directly above the “Petcare Box“).
Within the interface of this store, you will be able to acquire various collars for your pet or even a fun crown that it can wear on its head.
What to spend Pet Trust Points on
In Undawn, there are several beautiful pets available for purchase, requiring Pet Trust Points. If you plan to acquire these pets, I would recommend initially saving up the currency to buy them.
For other purposes, you can use Pet Trust Points to purchase upgraded food and pet rooms for your pets, as well as exchange them for Silver at a 1-to-1 ratio (Esc → Market → Pet → Other).
Conclusion
Currently, this is all the information I have been able to gather about pets in Undawn. I will strive to update the guide in the future if I learn anything new.
