SurrounDead: Base Building Guide

In SurrounDead, you can build a quite large camp, which will serve as a base. I say “camp” because in the current game version, the player can only build fences, tents, various workbenches, gates, and some furniture. But unfortunately, you still can’t build a full-fledged house with walls and a roof. I hope such an opportunity will be added in the future.

In this short guide, I will teach you how to build your own base in SurrounDead, how to select the right place for it, and what the base is actually needed for. The matter isn’t quick, but it’s still pretty interesting. Let’s start.

Choosing a place for the base

The first thing you need to do is find and equip a GPS. Then, having a map, you can choose a convenient place for your future base.

You may notice “safe zones” in the map. These are camps with traders. There are also campfires and crafting benches there that can be used at any time for free.

I recommend you build a base near these zones. There are no dangerous animals or zombies there, so you will be able to calmly build your stuff.

I think it would be wise to build a base close to the center of the map, so I’ve started building mine next to “The Valley Safe Zone”. Unfortunately, you can’t drink from rivers (at least in the current game version), so it doesn’t make sense to keep close to water bodies, although this will make your camp look a little prettier.

Preparing the necessary tools

Before you start building, you must gather resources: scrap metal, wood, and stone. In order to do this, you must have some tools: a sledge hammer, an axe, and a pickaxe. All this stuff can be found in large buildings in the open world. Besides, I’ve already written how to gather scrap metal, wood, and stone in SurrounDead, so I won’t repeat this here. Your first camp in SurrounDead

The first thing you need to build is a crafting bench. It requires 2 nails, so you must find them somewhere in the world. Press “Tab” and go to the “Crafting” tab. Select a crafting bench and press “Craft Selected Item“.

You can also craft nails from scrap metal using crafting benches in safe zones or camps of traders.

Then, you can select a crafting bench in your inventory and press “Place” to place it on the ground.

Using the crafting bench, you can create an Ammo Crafting Bench and Building Station. As you understand, an ammo crafting bench is used to craft ammo, and a building station is used to craft various things for your camp. Craft and place both of these workbenches.

You will also need a campfire to fry meat, a sleeping bag to assign a spawn point and sleep at night, and tents for storing your stuff. All these things can be crafted by using the crafting bench and the building station. You can also place some chests, advanced tents, and furniture. All of these you will easily find in the open world by raiding buildings.

It’s also a good idea to build a water well. It will accumulate water during rain, and you will be able to drink from it. As a result, you will never have water supply issues. So, your first base may look like the one shown in the picture above.

A little tip: don’t strive to make your camp ideally neat. This will make it boring. Place your chests with random rotation (you can rotate things by pressing “Q” and “E” when placing them), add useless stuff like chairs and tables, and place and turn on a few lamps that you can find in the world. You can also craft a Base Marker using the building station. This will add a marker for your base to the map.

Advanced building

In general, the simple camp described above will be more than enough. The fact is that there are no objective reasons in the game (at least in the current version) to build fences, gates, and other similar stuff. If your camp is near the safe zone, no one will attack it. But if you prefer immersive gameplay, let’s do this.

First and foremost, collect as much scrap metal and wood as possible. These resources are required for all buildings. After you have them, craft wood planks and nails using the crafting bench.

There are a few interesting things that you can craft. A Watch Tower will allow you to climb up on it and … just be there 😁. I don’t know what this tower is for. It’s just a handsome building.

You can also craft a wooden gate and a wooden fence to prevent imaginary enemies from infiltrating your camp. This will require a lot of resources.

After you do this, your little base will look like the one in the following pictures.

• If you turn your back to the ladder of a watch tower, look at it, and press F, you will be able to climb up on air.
