To go fishing in SurrounDead, you need to either find or craft a fishing rod. Fishing rods can be found in crates at points of interest in the open world, which is the easiest way to obtain one. However, in the current version of the game (since the fishing patch was released), there is a bug where players cannot equip a fishing rod that they found in the world unless they crafted it themselves. Therefore, if you are playing SurrounDead immediately after the patch release, you should focus on crafting a fishing rod instead of searching for one.
How to craft a fishing rod
To craft a fishing rod in SurrounDead, you will need to use the Crafting Bench. You can create and place the crafting bench on your own by opening the inventory with the TAB key and navigating to the “Crafting” tab. Once you have created the bench, you will need to place it in the world before you can use it. There is also a much easier way to craft a fishing rod. You can just go to any trader’s camp or safe zone, where you will guarantee finding a crafting bench that is ready to use and completely free.
So, having access to a crafting bench, interact with it by pressing “F” and select a fishing rod. Here is the list of resources needed to craft:
- 5 Scrap Metal
- 2 Wood
- 1 Rope
- 1 Tape
How to fish in SurrounDead
After you have crafted a fishing rod, it should be equipped. Open the inventory and drag the fishing rod onto the appropriate slot on the middle equipment panel.
Then you’ll be able to equip the fishing rod by pressing “9” on the keyboard. Go to any pond or river and press LMB (left mouse button) to cast the fishing rod.
Wait for a moment. When a fish bites, you will receive the message “You feel a tug on the line“. Click the left mouse button again to catch the fish. Keep in mind that fish can be automatically stored in containers such as “Secure Containers” if you have them.
What to do with fish in SurrounDead
You can eat fish raw to satisfy your hunger a little. But you can also cook fish over a campfire. As well as crafting benches, campfires can be found in the camps of traders and in safe zones.
Cooked fish will satisfy the hunger of your character much better.
