Undawn Weapon Guide: Which one is better?

Undawn

There are three types of weapons in Undawn: main, heavy, and melee. Melee weapons are not very effective in any game mode, so I wouldn’t recommend considering them seriously. They are only suitable for finishing off enemies when you run out of ammunition for a final blow.

In this guide, we will discuss which main and heavy weapons are worth choosing for beginners and why.

Best Main Weapons

The game offers several types of main weapons that gradually unlock as your character levels up. You can explore all the available types of main weapons in the “Trade” section. The game includes:

  • Assault Rifles (AK-47, HK416, AK-15, SCAR-L, CZ-762, ALPHA)
    Assault Rifles
  • Sniper Rifles (R700, M24, TRG, SVD)
    Sniper Rifles
  • Light Machine Gun (M249)
    Undawn
  • Shotguns (Bernelli M3, Origin-12)
    Undawn
  • Submachine Guns (Vector, PP-19 Bizon, MPX)

Best Main Weapon for PvE

In general, you can use any weapon from shotguns to submachine guns for PvE. However, based on my gameplay experience, I would recommend the Light Machine Gun (later in the game) or Assault Rifles in the early stages. The most versatile option is the AK-47, which is available almost from the very beginning of the game.

Best Main Weapon for PvP

When choosing weapons for PvP modes, forget about shotguns right away. I’ve tested them, and they are highly ineffective due to the significant delay between shots.

You are also unlikely to achieve good results with sniper rifles because combat in Undawn primarily takes place at short distances. If you intend to use a sniper rifle as your main weapon, you’ll need the M32 grenade launcher as a heavy weapon; otherwise, you’ll be left defenseless when enemies get close.

I would also not recommend using submachine guns because their damage per minute (DPM) is too low, and they are only effective at close range.

Based on my gameplay experience, I recommend using Assault Rifles, especially the AK-47SCAR and HK416 for PvP.

Calculating Damage Per Minute (DPM) of Automatic Weapons

It makes sense that we want the most powerful weapon. To determine this, we can calculate the DPM (Damage Per Minute) for each individual weapon by multiplying its base damage by the rate of fire per minute.

Undawn

For example, the AK-47 (level 40) has a DPM of 150 * 600 = 90,000, while the MPX (level 40) has a DPM of 95 * 790 = 75,050. This way, you can calculate the DPM for any weapon at your stage of the game. In my case, among all the automatic weapons available at level 40, the AK-47 is the most powerful. However, if you compare its other stats with its counterparts, you’ll see that the AK-47 has lower accuracy and recoil stability.

M249 Light Machine Gun

Technically, after the update on August 24, 2023, the M249 Light Machine Gun has become significantly more powerful than the AK-47 in terms of DPS, especially considering its Firearms Talent. However, you must take into account the long (about 4 seconds) reload time of the machine gun (which is very critical in close combat) and its high recoil. Additionally, the AK-47 performs excellently in PVP due to its built-in talent that slows down enemies.

Damage vs Accuracy

The main weapons in Undawn have the following indicators: Accuracy, Initial Speed, Vertical Stability, and Horizontal Stability. These factors should be taken into account when choosing a weapon. For example, if a weapon has weak stability, it means that it will be difficult to control its recoil. The weapon will have a large spread, resulting in low accuracy.

Accuracy, Initial Speed, Vertical Stability, and Horizontal Stability.

At the time of updating this guide, I prefer to use the HK416 (or CZ762) because this assault rifle is very accurate and has low recoil. Although it loses to the AK-47 in terms of DPM (damage per minute), personally, I find it much more comfortable to play with.

Firearm Talent

Additionally, each main weapon has its own unique Firearm Talent. You can check the Firearm Talent of your weapon in the “Assemble” section.

Firearm Talent

The strength of the Firearm Talent depends on the level of the Firearm Set, which can be upgraded through the uniform improvement of accessories: muzzle, barrel, receiver, magazine, grip, and stock.

How to choose Heavy Weapons for PvP and PvE

Undawn offers five types of heavy weapons:

  • M134 Heavy Machine Gun
  • B39 Biotic Rifle
  • M32 Grenade Launcher
  • M82 Heavy Sniper Rifle
  • SH95 Gun Shield

Undawn

You can switch between heavy weapons depending on the situation by changing talents in the “Expertise” section, and it is completely free. Based on my gameplay experience, I believe that for PvE, the M134 Heavy Machine Gun is the best choice. The heavy machine gun is very effective for dealing damage to bosses.

Undawn

For PvP, I recommend using either the M32 Grenade Launcher or the M82 Heavy Sniper Rifle. The B39 Biotic Rifle is more of a support weapon than an offensive one, and you won’t be able to move as freely with the M134 Heavy Machine Gun as you would with a regular assault rifle.

SH95 Gun Shield

The SH95 Gun Shield has also proven itself excellently, but you need to learn how to use this weapon correctly. In skilled hands, it significantly increases the character’s survivability and your team’s chances of victory.

What is Expertise and why is it important?

Each heavy weapon in Undawn has its own list of perks called “Expertise” (accessible in the game’s main menu).

Undawn

To obtain Expertise Points, players must level up their Skills. Each level increase in any Skill raises the overall Talent Level, which is displayed at the top of the interface. After reaching Talent Lv. 15, you will receive 1 Expertise Point for every subsequent level.

Expertise Points

Expertise Points, can be spent on learning or upgrading one of the available perks. Note that you can always reset Expertise Points for 10,000 silver.

Undawn

Additionally, you can freely switch expertise to another without any restrictions. For example, you can start using a machine gun instead of a grenade launcher. The Expertise Points spent on the perk list of the current heavy weapon will be retained. Moreover, you will receive the same number of points to upgrade any other Expertise you choose.

This means that you don’t need to be tied to a specific type of heavy weapon in your gameplay. You can freely use any of them depending on your needs in the game.

Undawn

Another thing to know is that some heavy weapon perks enhance your main weapon. For example, some machine gun perks increase the critical hit chance and damage of your main weapon. This should be considered when allocating Expertise Points. Furthermore, understanding the expertise perks will give you a better understanding of what happens in PvP battles and what fighting style to employ, such as countering a support player with the B39 Biotic Rifle.
